Profile
The focus of Markus’ work is on technical intellectual property rights. He appears for German, European and international clients in trials concerning the infringement and validity of patents and utility models. Markus has also gained particular expertise in matters of preliminary injunctions related to all kinds of IP rights and other aspects of product piracy. He serves clients from different fields of technology, including mechanical engineering, electronics and computer technology, telecommunications and biotechnology. Markus also acts for clients within the packaging, automotive and medical engineering industries. His professional and personal interests meet when it comes to aviation and agricultural technology.
Alongside his work in technical intellectual property rights, Markus provides advice across the entire spectrum of competition law, such as unfair competition issues and infringement of designs or trademarks.
For his doctorate, Markus researched at the interface between anti-trust law and economics, and published his thesis on the Relevant Market in Anti-Trust Law. His Ph.D. studies were supported by a postgraduate scholarship from the German Science Foundation Assembly, Working Committee Economy and Law (Stifterverband für die deutsche Wissenschaft, Arbeitskreis Wirtschaft und Recht). As an IP lawyer, his studies in anti-trust law are of central value when it comes to the interface between IP and anti-trust law, for example in standard essential patents.
Markus was called to the bar as lawyer (Germany) in 2009 and became a Partner in 2020.
